Planning is at least 50% of the fun. Being a planning freak adds to the joy. Trying to think in advance for
All the things involved that are not directly related to photography are now part of my off-work stack. Some examples of what I’m talking about:
Weather
- Checking average temperatures and precipitation values over the years in order to have a relative domain. Act upon that that to plan for clothing needs.
Food
- We are not going on long hikes, so I’m not planning on taking survival rations or anything. Nevertheless, well be up the mountain, away from “civilization” for some time. Having snacks, energy and liquids is a must.
- Plan 3 to 4 snacks a day, find nice flavors
- Plan for some energy elements, like SOS. Dark chocolate for example.
Communications
- Cell phones are a good commodity. Up in the mountains and even more, down on the valleys, cell phones are many times useless. Network coverage on difficult spots is most of the time. Long range walkie-talkies may be an interesting tool.
- Power bank for cell phone
- Tracking devices to geotag images later on
On top of this, I decided to unpack my backpack, clean all the lenses and sort all the equipment I will be taking along. The image bellow will be hoking with me most of the time 🙂
Decisions on what to pack and carry will be described in future posts.
