Packing: DONE!

this is a late entry in the post series as I was working on the packing till late last night, thus having no time to write it…

Yesterday, after some serious considerations, I decided to use the computer guy approach: restart 🙂 I went to my packing place (a.k.a. bed), took everything out of the backpack, and by everything, I mean EVERYTHING including the space divider, took apart my Mamiya into its building blocks and repacked. You know what? it fitted!!!!!!!!!! I’m happy 🙂 Very happy!!!! I’m taking my DSLR and my  MF. What extra stuff am I packing?

  • The machine body
  • The film holders (6×4,5 and 6×7)
  • The prism
  • The mechanic release cable
  • B & W filters (Red, Orange, Yellow and Green)
  • Films, storage containers and refrigeration to hold them

What am I leaving behind? A back pain 🙂 I’ll be sure to use all the backpack straps and belts to ensure a good weight transfer to my hips instead of my shoulders.

To be honest, I wouldn’t forgive myself if I found myself in the middle of those mountains, knowing this baby was left behind.

One extra thing I had to do: as my backpack is not very spacious, I could’t fit the 70-200 with the remaining gear. I’ve opted to extend it with a lens case.

I’ll add some images soon.

Picos da Europa expedition 2015: day 5

The night was calm and re-energizing. The hotel uses a generator for electricity that is shut down at mid-night. After that moment, absolute silence! Only the sound of the wind persists. Some adventurous fellows stayed up and made some nice night sky images. I’ll have to come back to this amazing place and stay here a bit longer for those types of images…
Now was the day for the high mountain glorious sunrise… or was it?

Picos da Europa expedition 2015: day 2

The morning started early: after 3 hours of deep and fast sleep, the alarm clock went of at 5:00. And what a shock that was! The big difference I immediately felt was that after the milliseconds it took for me to acknowledge where I was and remembering what I was there to do, it took me no time to jump out of bed, grab a quick snack and some coffee from my thermal bottle and there I was – ready to rock and roll!

Picos da Europa expedition 2015: day 1

As I start writing this new set of posts, less than 24 hours have gone by since arriving from the expedition. I am being completely honest with you when I say that I still miss the words for accurately describing the sensations I came across during these last 5 days. I guess somethings are really to be felt and not put in words. Very few have the ability to transpose this and I’m certainly not one of them. Please bear that in mind while reading the remaining posts of this series.

Picos da Europa expedition 2015: T-3 days

A post that considers bot the T-4 and T-3 days.

Yesterday, a day mostly dedicated to the family, with a final shopping points in the way (some snacks to carry during the day and caffeine drinks for the driving 🙂 ). As I will have a very active next days, I will do all the packing today. I don’t want to stay up late on the days before driving as it adds unnecessary risk to the mix.
