Picos da Europa expedition 2015: T-0 day

This post is part of a series that briefly describe an inspiring expedition to Picos da Europa, Spain, during the Spring of 2015. The complete series follows:

Getting soooo close I can almost smell it 🙂 (as in the cold air in the high mountains)

with hours left to the beginning of the journey there is not much left to prepare:

  • post-its with the last minute items, with a LARGE one for the films that I keep in the freezer (hmmm now that I mention this it may be worth a post explaining why…)
  • GPS tracks inserted
  • Technical backpack ready to go
  • Tripod
  • Clothes and personal items also packed and ready to go
  • Snacks and water ready to jump into the cooler (close to the films 🙂 )

I guess that my biggest challenge for the day will be to get some sleep, as tomorrow’s 900 km trip will certainly make a dent.

Tomorrow the official expedition start will be in Lisbon, right next to the biggest Portuguese flag and in the day of Portugal.

Parque Eduardo VII, Lisbon, Portugal.

Once again, Portuguese will launch in conquering mode, into our neighboring country Spain. This time though, we are going tin peace capturing the landscape in film or digital.

‘Till next post!

Picos da Europa expedition 2015: day 5

The night was calm and re-energizing. The hotel uses a generator for electricity that is shut down at mid-night. After that moment, absolute silence! Only the sound of the wind persists. Some adventurous fellows stayed up and made some nice night sky images. I’ll have to come back to this amazing place and stay here a bit longer for those types of images…
Now was the day for the high mountain glorious sunrise… or was it?

Picos da Europa expedition 2015: day 2

The morning started early: after 3 hours of deep and fast sleep, the alarm clock went of at 5:00. And what a shock that was! The big difference I immediately felt was that after the milliseconds it took for me to acknowledge where I was and remembering what I was there to do, it took me no time to jump out of bed, grab a quick snack and some coffee from my thermal bottle and there I was – ready to rock and roll!

Picos da Europa expedition 2015: day 1

As I start writing this new set of posts, less than 24 hours have gone by since arriving from the expedition. I am being completely honest with you when I say that I still miss the words for accurately describing the sensations I came across during these last 5 days. I guess somethings are really to be felt and not put in words. Very few have the ability to transpose this and I’m certainly not one of them. Please bear that in mind while reading the remaining posts of this series.

Picos da Europa expedition 2015: T-3 days

A post that considers bot the T-4 and T-3 days.

Yesterday, a day mostly dedicated to the family, with a final shopping points in the way (some snacks to carry during the day and caffeine drinks for the driving 🙂 ). As I will have a very active next days, I will do all the packing today. I don’t want to stay up late on the days before driving as it adds unnecessary risk to the mix.
